Sacred Life Sunday: A day of rest

i'm spending the day resting having been out most of friday...

tina and i drove up to leeds to meet friends for dinner and the theatre. we had an early dinner at raymond blanc's new leeds brasserie - his la petite maison in oxford used to be favourite restaurant :o) then off to the grand to see the history boys by alan bennett - it was brilliant!! it was a full house - i can't remember the last time i experienced a full theatre (grantham is something of a cultural wilderness, i'm afraid...) the acting and the script were superb - such humour, such pathos, bennett is the master at both!!

i realized how much i love live entertainment - the immediacy of it, the direct connection to the emotions of the actors and the audience!! i must make the effort to see more of it, and expose the children to it...

maybe a panto at christmas....

Cool quiz

i found this quiz on christine's blog...
i'm not surprised by the card - he's always followed me around...
last birthday my best pal, tina, bought me the da vinci enigma tarot - it's too beautiful for words - but as i looked through the deck, i instantly knew someone was missing - the hierophant!!!
thankfully i contacted the publisher who sent him return of post...
i have to admit i would prefer to be a high priestess like christine - i don't like the male traditionalist aspect of the hierophant - but i think he showed up because i chose saturn for my favourite planet rather than the moon - my 2nd favourite!! saturn is a very 'male' planet, and i've always been fascinated by it...
i actually saw saturn one evening in kenya - just using a child's telescope - it was mesmerizing!!! exactly like the pictures in my childhood Times Atlas...
and i know i have very 'male' aspects to my personality, and it's important for me to acknowledge them...

let me know what tarot card you are :o)

You are The Hierophant

Divine Wisdom. Manifestation. Explanation. Teaching.

All things relating to education, patience, help from superiors.The Hierophant is often considered to be a Guardian Angel.

The Hierophant's purpose is to bring the spiritual down to Earth. Where the High Priestess between her two pillars deals with realms beyond this Earth, the Hierophant (or High Priest) deals with worldly problems. He is well suited to do this because he strives to create harmony and peace in the midst of a crisis. The Hierophant's only problem is that he can be stubborn and hidebound. At his best, he is wise and soothing, at his worst, he is an unbending traditionalist.

Sacred Life Sunday: Living it up

it's taken me till tuesday to recover from my night out on sunday, but it was soooo worth it!!!
seth lakeman was playing the engine shed at lincoln uni - he was FANTASTIC!!!
sue, one of my occupational therapists, took me - she got it free as my carer. it was an all-standing venue, but i had my wheelchair. i mostly sat during the warm up acts, but when seth took the stage, i stood up - for 1.5 hours!!!!!!!!
he is sooo talented - playing the banjo, acoustic guitar, ukelele and the fiddle - sadly my flash didn't work too well, but you get the idea...
all the members of his band were awesome musicians - esp. the double bass player!! everyone got so into it clapping and stomping - i bashed my stick on the floor :o)
there was a wide age range in the audience - proving you're never too young, or old, to appreciate talent!
i can't wait till he comes back to lincoln in the spring - i'll be at the front of the queue!!

Season of mists...

... and family colds!
i'm afraid all of us have been suffering with colds in the sauer household - including my poor dad - so i've been feeling rather under the weather this past week or so...
thankfully i'm not quite shrivelled like most of the leaves in this pic, i still have some colour...
hopefully i'll be back posting and commenting in full flow next week. till then i'll leave you with my favourite poem to the season...

SEASON of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eaves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease;
For Summer has o'erbrimm'd their clammy cells.

Who hath not seen thee oft amid thy store?
Sometimes whoever seeks abroad may find
Thee sitting careless on a granary floor,
Thy hair soft-lifted by the winnowing wind;
Or on a half-reap'd furrow sound asleep,
Drowsed with the fume of poppies, while thy hook
Spares the next swath and all its twinèd flowers:
And sometimes like a gleaner thou dost keep
Steady thy laden head across a brook;
Or by a cyder-press, with patient look,
Thou watchest the last oozings, hours by hours.

Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they?
Think not of them, thou hast thy music too,—
While barrèd clouds bloom the soft-dying day
And touch the stubble-plains with rosy hue;
Then in a wailful choir the small gnats mourn
Among the river-sallows, borne aloft
Or sinking as the light wind lives or dies;
And full-grown lambs loud bleat from hilly bourn;
Hedge-crickets sing; and now with treble soft
The redbreast whistles from a garden-croft;
And gathering swallows twitter in the skies.

Ode to Autumn by John Keats
